The vehicle that was donated in Feb is on the road
Thank you for your donation of $12,000 Chris A that was for a vehicle for ICCN. It is now on the road. I just wanted to get these first photos up on the blog, and I will provide all the detail in a later post of what it cost - ie the shell, the engine, the wheels and other parts. They came from lots of different places. Thank you Chris. My work is made much easier with this vehicle. Paulin
Here I am with some of my men at Rumangabo, the headquarters for the southern sector of the Park. This was the first day I drove in the vehicle.

Daily news from the conservation frontline by Innocent and Diddy, and other Congolese rangers risking their lives to save mountain gorillas of the Virunga National Park in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
Chris A — you are a wonderful person whoever you are!!!!!!!!!!
Yes I agree. What kind of mileage do you see from one vehicle. Do they last for awhile. It seems to me you would probably go through vehicles pretty regular from the terrain aspect. Do they ever get stolen??? Steph
Hello Stephanie. Mileage varies enormously, but it is not necessarily the quantity of miles as the quality. Roads in Congo are not paved, and for example to get up to Camp Karema the last 12km is like a footpath with big rocks. So it takes about an hour. When Rangers go on patrol we also access areas where, as you suggest, the terrain is rugged, wet, and irregular to say the least! The vehicle donated by Chris is incredibly sturdy and I know Rob Muir for one is very jealous! It really is perfect for our environment. Paulin
