Rugendo Gorilla family enjoying the food and sunshine in Bukima
After a few days absence the Rugendo Mountain Gorilla family has returned to Bukima in the Mikeno sector of Virunga. Rangers visited the family today, and these are the photos.
This is Congomani and Noela. You will remember them from a previous post where they were playing in a video.
And this is Gakoti, a young member of the family who was very playful today.
I can also tell you that the sick member of the Kabirizi is still being monitored. The family have moved from Bukima to Gatovu, close by. The infant is still sick, but is showing slow signs of recovery.

Daily news from the conservation frontline by Innocent and Diddy, and other Congolese rangers risking their lives to save mountain gorillas of the Virunga National Park in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
This is good that the baby is faring better than last time. Did you use your new truck to get there??? What are the reactions to you all when you go into their habitat areas. This may sound silly but do they make noises when you approach or do they hide at first, or are they so used to you and your smells that they dont run??? I am assuming that they know you are of no harm to them??? Sorry for all the questions but I am full of them, and I want to understand everything. You Paulin and your beloved rangers stay so safe for you have familys to. Steph…
Website looks great — I love it!
Thank you for your comments Stephanie and Wanda. I am glad you like the new website Wanda. We still have many things to sort out - this is what WildlifeDirect tells me, but hopefully next week this will be so. Hello Stephanie - when we visit the gorillas we make a grunting noise. This is the noise that gorillas that are habituated associate with humans. This reassures them. So they do not run away. But it depends on the gorillas - some are scared or shy, and some are curious and want to play! Paulin
Paulin, what happens if they want to play with you????? Do they actually try to interact? I think it is pretty cool that they would actually interact with you guys…Steph And yes the web site looks super duper..:):):)
Wow! I love the new look of the blog! Thanks for the great pics of the Rugendo family. They’re beautiful.
