Rugendo Silverback found dead

Published by admin at 7:50 am under Rugendo Family, Threats

More bad news.

The Silverback of the Rugendo family, Senkekwe, has today been found dead. There is also a young infant who has been orphaned by the attacks and was last seen with a blackback, her elder brother. We can no longer find the two and without him having a way to feed her, the infant will most certainly die.

There are no words for what we are feeling.

How could they be so evil? I am heartbroken at this news. They can’t be human to do such a despicable thing. I feel so bad.

I want to hate the people who have done this. There is a special place in hell for them, I think. But I can only guess that they know not what they do. I pray for their enlightenment before it’s too late for the gorillas. My deepest sympathies to the rangers.

Paulin, please extend my deep sympathies to your rangers as well. I cannot imagine how difficult these days have been for all of you. Be careful and be well.

I agree with sheryl — I cannot imagine how difficult this has been for you. I am hopeful that more international attention will be focused on what is happening in Virunga. My deep, deep sympathies to you all.

    Paulin,
most distressing…are you getting any man power support for protecting the remaining gorillas? has MONUC or anybody stepped up to help you? what can be done for the remaining gorillas? do your men know where the other families are?

Aren’t Rugendo and Humba brothers? It makes me sick to think that these people are killing them off randomly, or so it seems.

Where is the leaders of Europe and USA in the defense of Africa wildlife?

  9. pepromeneon 24 Jul 2007 at 8:44 pm

Yes, where IS the U.S. in defense of African wildlife? I am ashamed my country is not providing assistance. Soon it may be too late for these innocent creatures.

My deepest sympathies to Paulin, and I join Mary (above) in praying for the enlightenment of the people who are responsible for these senseless massacres. And bravo to all of the efforts and work of the rangers and villagers.

Words will do nothing. Raise money. Do local fundraisers! Get names involved. Get publicity. I am in Vegas in anyone wants to mobilize locally contact me! Get schools and schoolchildren to do fundraisers. Local bigwigs, anyone who can!!! Time is of the essence. Less than 600 left!

Hello, of course I came to visit your site and thanks for letting me know about it.
I just read this post and wanted to say it is full of number one resources. Some I am familiar with. For those who don’t know these other sites they are in for a treat as there is a lot to learn there.
